Halebidu :: the destroyed city

A throwback from a much earlier trip in 2008 when all I hoped for from my travels were some good photographs. We drove down from Bangalore to Halebidu, and were totally in awe of the intricacy and detailing in the sculpture. I could figure out some of the tales from the epics that were depicted on the outer walls. But, as luck would have it, it was cloudy and threatened to rain any minute, pretty much all the time. By the time we set foot at Belur it began to pour and we decided to head back.

I managed to visit the Hoysala temples at Somnathpur a few years later. Maybe the rest of them sometime soon.
